Located on nearly 22,000 sq meters (5.5 acres) of land and surrounded by sycamore trees, Miskolctapolca Outdoor Bath is one of the most popular and iconic outdoor pools in the city, welcoming visitors looking for relaxation from May to September.
The outdoor kiddie pool is ideal for families with small children, while the 50-meter lap pool offers ample swimming opportunities for others. The wellness and massage pools, as well as the sauna park with its characteristic cone shaped tops, are located in the main building. They provide relaxation close to nature in a picturesque setting surrounded by the Bükk Mountains.
The outdoor splash pools at the top of the sauna cones and the range of massages which are available on site offer a unique refreshment. The volleyball and footballtennis (futnet) courts in the beach park offer active relaxation, and the fitness department awaits sports enthusiasts with the latest generation of cardio and strength fitness machines.
Bath History
The first outdoor public swimming pool in Miskolctapolca was opened in 1923 and has since undergone various updates and expansions over the years. Tapolca, at the time, was independent from Miskolc. When Tapolca gained spa status in 1934, the small town started to flourish rapidly. Many inns, restaurants and boarding houses sprung up. The outdoor pools were finally closed down in 2004; but after undergoing a complete remodel, they reopened their doors in 2015. The special cones at the entrance were preserved to help evoke the old bathhouse’s atmosphere, along with the huge sycamore trees, following the guidelines of Europe’s Green City Project. The goal here was nature preservation, alongside meeting the demands of a modern, 21st century spa complex equipped with the latest technological advances. Thus, the spa complex almost seamlessly blends into its environment, surrounded by willows, the Hejő Stream, and the Bükk Mountain Ranges.
